This is the 2022 Rivian R1T, the first electric pickup to hit the market. It’s also our 2022 MotorTrend Truck of the Year — a first for an electric vehicle.
Rivian R1T
MotorTrend named the all-electric Rivian R1T the publication’s 2022 Truck of the Year, beating out other pickups from Ford, General Motors, and Hyundai.
Rivian is also the first automaker to deliver a fully electric pickup truck.
“Rivian re-examined what a modern pickup could be and the result is the most remarkable truck MotorTrend has ever driven, making it arguably the worthiest recipient of the ‘Golden Calipers’ in recent history,” the release said.
MotorTrend said the Rivian R1T excelled in each of its six key criteria: safety, efficiency, value, advancement in design, engineering excellence, and performance of intended function.
Other finalists for MotorTrend’s truck of the year were the Ford Maverick, GMC Hummer EV and Hyundai Santa Cruz.

Fisker Ocean
The Fisker Ocean has won an inaugural THE ZEVAS zero-emission vehicle (ZEV) award, chosen at the Los Angeles Auto Show in conjunction with Electrify America.
The Fisker Ocean made its global debut at the 2021 LA Auto Show earlier this week. The Fisker Ocean won in the Crossover (US$50,000 and below) category.
The other finalist in the Crossover under $50,000 category were Alpha Motor Company Electric JAX, and the Ford Mustang Mach-E.
Lucid Air
Finalists for the North American Car of the Year include the Lucid Air, along side the gas-powered Honda Civic and Volkswagen Golf Mk VIII.
Rivian R1T
Finalists for the North American Truck of the Year include the Rivian R1T, along with gas-powered Ford Maverick and Hyundai Santa Cruz.
Hyundai Ioniq 5
Finalists for the North American Utility Vehicle of the Year include the Hyundai IONIQ 5, along with gas-powered Ford Bronco and Genesis GV70.
