Maryland is the latest US State to announce the adoption of the Advanced Clean Cars II act, first adopted by California in August last year.
The new regulations mandates that 35 percent of new car sales must be tailpipe emissions-free by 2026. The percentage increases to 51 percent in 2028, then 68 percent by 2030, and 100 percent by 2035.
Governor Wes Moore announced that manufacturers must increase the share of electric vehicles they sell in the state over the next few years until a 100% figure is reached in 2035. The ICE ban will be in effect for all passenger cars and light trucks. You’ll have to travel out of state if you want a Ford F-150 with a V8 instead of a Lightning.

An entry-level EV, similar in size to the Audi A3, will be launched in the middle of the decade as the German car maker ramps up its electrification shift.
The A-segment model, confirmed to Autocar by Audi CTO Oliver Hoffman, is part of a plan to get an electric car in each “core” segment by 2027
It is expected to use the Volkswagen Group’s new skateboard-style SSP (Scalable Systems Platform) electric architecture – the same structure that is set to make its debut on the upcoming Volkswagen ID 4 saloon currently being developed under the internal working title Project Trinity – offering a maximum range of more than 400 miles.

Hyundai Auto Canada announced details and pricing for its much anticipated Ioniq 6 fully-electric sedan.
All trims sold across Canada starting this Spring, will come with a Long Range 77.4-kWh battery and customers will be able to select from either a rear motor only layout, or for all-wheel drive.
The Ioniq 6 Preferred RWD Long Range has a MSRP of CDN$54,999 and a Natural Resources Canada (NRC)-estimated range of 581 kilometres (361 miles).
Dual motor AWD models have a starting MSRP of CDN$57,999 and have up to 509 kilometres (316 miles) of range.
For 2023, the Bavarian automaker expects BEV to make up 15 percent of its overall sales. The company noted that its all-electric models are chosen not only by owners of ICE-powered BMWs, but also by customers from other brands, enabling it to gain market share.

Sales of new electric vehicles – referred to as new energy vehicles (NEVs) – in China surged in February this year. The retail sales of China’s new energy passenger cars expanded 439,000 units in February, a 61 percent increase over February 2022 according to the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA).
