70.1% of all new car registrations in Norway in October were pure Electric Vehicles

In Norway, 8,116 new EVs were registered in October 2921, giving pure electric cars a 70.1 percent share of all new registrations for the month. This represents an increase of 3.1 percent, when compared to the 7,873 BEV registrations in October 2020.

The Volkswagen ID.4, with 913 registrations, was the model with the most new registrations in October.

88,674 new BEVs have been registered so far this year, according to the Norwegian Road Information Agency (OFV). This represents a market share of 63.1 percent from the beginning of January to the end of October. These numbers represent purely battery-electric vehicles (BEV) and not hybrid vehicles.

Kia EV6 is crowned the 2022 German Premium Car of the Year

The all-new Kia EV6 electric crossover has been voted ‘2022 German Car of the Year’ in the ‘Premium’ category of the ‘German Car of the Year’ (GCOTY) awards. The prestigious accolade comes at a time when the innovative crossover continues to make its highly anticipated debut across Europe.

The EV6 fought off competition from a series of contenders to take the top honour, with the innovative crossover beating a diverse set of rivals that included the Hyundai Ioniq 5, Volkswagen ID.4, Audi Q4 e-tron, Skoda Enyaq and Mercedes-Benz C-Class, among others. A jury consisting of 20 automotive journalists evaluated new models with a base price of between 25,000 and 50,000 euros to determine the overall category winner.

In addition to the three main categories that included ‘Compact’, for vehicles priced under 25,000 euros, ‘Premium’, for vehicles priced between 25,000 and 50,000 euros, and ‘Luxury’, for vehicles priced over 50,000 euros, the competition also included an additional category called ‘New Energies’, which represented electric vehicles powered solely by batteries or hydrogen. The Kia EV6 was also ranked second in this category.

Volkswagen ID.3 on sale in China

The entry-level two-seat Volkswagen ID.3 sedan is now available in China, becoming the company’s third ID. EV to be offered in the country following the larger the ID.4 and ID.6 models.

The compact ID.3 is very popular in the European market. The Chinese-built and sold ID.3 is slightly narrower, while sharing the same 2,765mm (108.9″) wheelbase.

The Chinese sold ID.3, ID.4, and ID.6 is manufactured by a joint venture between SAIC Motor Corporation and VW. SAIC is a Chinese state-owned automotive manufacturing company headquartered in Shanghai, China.

Volkswagen China CEO Stephan Wöllenstein said, “With the ID.4 and ID.6 we have successfully launched two strong model series in recent months. Feedback from our customers is promising, delivery figures meet our expectations. With the ID.3, we are now offering our customers a product in the important compact segment and, in combination with the other ID. models, are able to cover a large share of the market.”

The ID.3 is available in three trim levels, starting at 159,888 yuan (~ CDN$31,000 / USD$25,000).

2021 Volkswagen ID.4 RWD earns NHTSA 5-Star overall safety rating

Volkswagen announced that the VW ID.4 RWD (rear wheel drive) has earned a 5-Star overall safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

The all-wheel-drive ID.4 has achieved a 5-Star combined rating in the frontal test and 5-star ratings in the side tests. The all-wheel-drive ID.4 is expected to undergo testing for rollover to complete the overall ratings in the near future.

The ID.4 RWD joins the 2021 and 2022 Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport, 2021 Jetta and Jetta GLI, and 2021 Golf and Golf GTI as Volkswagen vehicles with a 5-Star overall safety rating.

To help protect occupants, the ID.4 provides a combination of both passive and active safety systems. It features six airbags as standard—front and side airbags for front passengers, and side curtain airbags for outboard seating positions. The ID.4 is also equipped with Volkswagen’s IQ.DRIVE advanced driver assistance technology, featuring hands-on semi-automated capability. This safety-enhancing technology is designed to help monitor the driver’s surroundings and alert the driver of potential obstacles.
