It’s already proven to be so popular, on Thursday Ford announced the hybrid model is basically sold out.

According to the automaker, demand for this fuel-sipping trucklette has been strong, which is great news for Ford, less so if you want to own one of these things. Production of the 2022 hybrid model is expected to be fully spoken for by early next month. If you’re aiming to park one of these Mavericks in your garage, you’d better act fast. According to a release from Ford, “Once all 2022 Maverick Hybrids have been reserved, ordering … will close until reopening next summer.” Yep, get that reservation in ASAP of you’ll be waiting months.

However » Ford Maverick hybrid deliveries delayed

Michael Martinez, Automotive News »

The automaker previously said the Maverick’s hybrid powertrain — the standard offering — would be available at launch, but only the gasoline-powered model went on sale in September. Officials now say they’ll begin shipping the hybrid trucks in December, with deliveries beginning in January, “so required state and federal emissions certification can be completed.”

2022 Ford Maverick Hybrid officially rated at 42 MPG or 5.6 L/100km in the city

The new 2022 Ford Maverick Hybrid pickup – the first standard battery-hybrid pickup in North America – is now officially the most fuel-efficient hybrid pickup with a U.S. Environmental Protection Agency estimated rating of 42 U.S. mpg or 5.6 L/100km in the city.

The 2.5-liter battery-hybrid has an U.S. EPA-estimated rating of 33 mpg (7.1 L/100km) highway for a 37 U.S. mpg (6.3 L/100km) combined, giving an estimated range of more than 500 miles (800km) on a single tank of gas.

The first truck to come with a standard hybrid powertrain in the United States also happens to be the most efficient of them all. When Ford unveiled the all-new Maverick back in June, it touted an EPA-estimated rating of 40 miles per gallon in the city. As it turns out, the compact pickup sips even less fuel as the Environmental Protection Agency says it will actually do 42 mpg.

With a 33-mpg highway rating resulting in a 37-mpg combined, the new Maverick Hybrid will be able to cover more than 500 miles (805 kilometers) before running out of fuel, all for a starting price of $19,995. As expected, these fuel economy numbers are far better than those of the optional 2.0-liter EcoBoost, which returns 23 mpg city / 30 mpg highway / 26 mpg combined in a front-wheel-drive configuration and 22 / 29 / 25 for the AWD model.
