Formula E – The first season 8 livery reveal happened today at COP26 as Envision unveiled their first car as full owners of a team.

Envision teamed up with Virgin Racing in season 5 at the start of the Gen 2 era and, after three seasons as the team’s title sponsor, will now take over from Virgin as the team now becomes Envision Racing.

“We would like to thank Virgin for all their support and wish them every success for the future,” said Envision Racing’s Managing Director, Sylvain Filippi. “We are raring to go for the new season and hugely motivated about the potential of Formula E in supporting sustainable progress.”

The team’s season 8 livery was also unveiled and marked itself as dramatically different to the silver, red and purple designs that had identified the team until now. The Envision team will now head to track with a green and blue paint job, which represents the company’s push for renewable energy.

Agency Model » A much needed trend in new car retailing

Volkswagen mandated agency model for EV sales at all German dealerships. (WardsAuto)

The Agency Model is not just a trend. It’s already taken hold in Europe.

WardsAuto »

This agency model works as follows: The franchise dealer no longer is the focal point of a new vehicle sale; instead, the customer places an order directly with Volkswagen, whether offline or online, and names a preferred delivery dealer. The price and dealership mark-up or commission is fixed, set by VW, and the preferred dealer is the agent with no sales negotiation responsibility but is simply a test drive, transaction processor and delivery point.

The dealer no longer finances an inventory of vehicles for sale, all floorplan or finance costs are borne by VW and the dealer is offered an attractive lease program for demos and loaners. This is not the future; in many places in Europe the agency model has already arrived.

Daimler was next to introduce the agency model about a year later in the U.K., with other European regions planning to follow.

REV Fire Group receives order for North America’s first fully electric fire truck

The all-electric E-ONE Vector fire truck will be built for Mesa Fire and Medical Department in Mesa, AZ.

REV Fire Group claims the customizable Vector has the industry’s longest electric pumping duration which allows four hose lines to be in use for four hours on a single charge. Additional features include a superior battery storage solution offering a safer, lower centre of gravity and regenerative braking.

This rig supports the City of Mesa’s Climate Action Plan and goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050. “I’m an advocate for electric vehicles — it’s a better technology and this is one of many steps we can take to bring us closer to our Climate Action Plan goals,” said Mayor John Giles. “We look forward to this as a study in the potential cost-savings and efficiency of electric vehicles in City operations.”

Tesla opens 10 Superchargers to drivers of other EVs in the Netherlands

Charged EV »

The 10 stations are now accessible to Dutch non-Tesla EV drivers via the Tesla app. Tesla is starting with a small number of sites so that it can “review the experience, monitor congestion and assess feedback before expanding. Future sites will only be opened to non-Tesla vehicles if there is available capacity.”

EV drivers of all persuasions have a lot of questions, and Tesla has answered most of them on its site.

Can other EVs with a CCS port use the Superchargers without an adapter? Yes. European Teslas have been produced with the standard CCS port used by other manufacturers since 2018, when the company began retrofitting European Supercharger stations with dual cables, so that they can charge Teslas equipped with either CCS or the Type 2 Mennekes connector previously used by European Teslas.

Will non-Tesla drivers will pay a higher price to charge? Yes, they will—the premium “reflects additional costs incurred to support charging a broad range of vehicles and adjustments to our sites to accommodate these vehicles.”

Average new car price in the US tops USD$45,000, while EV’s had some of the lowest price increases

Frankly, that is insane.

Forbes »

Some new-car segments saw price increases above the 12.1% average increase versus a year ago. They were led by vans, up 16.4%; hybrid/alternative energy (but not EVs) cars and mid-size cars, both up 15.1%; and high-end luxury cars, up 14.4%. The average selling price of a high-end luxury car hit $119,312 in September, of a high end luxury full-size SUV/crossover $102,191.

Categories with the lowest price increase versus a year ago were full-size (mainstream) SUV/crossovers, up 2.3%; electric cars, up 3.5%; and subcompact cars, up 5.0%. The modest price increase for EVs is at least partly due to the increase in availability of mainstream electric cars.

Individual brands with big September 2021 price increases relative to a year ago were Cadillac, up 51.2%; Genesis up 29.7%; and Mercedes-Benz, up 25.8%. KBB cautioned that a change in model mix from 2020 to 2021 can distort a brand’s increase or price decrease (-2% in the case of Fiat).
